Across the sea of lavender that fronts the main house is a lovely guest cottage with wrought iron table and chair at its entrance. It has a large double bedroom with hardwood floors and successful mix of styles and colour, adjoined by a spacious bathroom and French doors to a furnished back terrace overlooking a well-tended garden.
Continuing along the approach walk one arrives in a large tufo stone terrace accessed both by the main structure, which houses living and sleeping quarters, and by the side building housing the kitchen and dining room.
In the main house there are two living areas which stretch the depth of the building – to the right a summery green and white sitting room with comfortable sofas, to the left a library and entertainment area with a wall of films, comfortable seating and a large fireplace. Both living areas have French doors to outdoor furnished terraces that look down to the pool.
A central staircase leads up to three bedrooms: a large master double bedroom with dressing room and travertine-clad bathroom, a second double bedroom with ensuite bathroom and a twin bedroom with a small ensuite shower room.
There is a festive sense of ‘going out to dinner’ at this property, for the dining room, in a separate building, with its fireplace and whimsical frescos is, in itself, a special place. The fact that there is a dream kitchen, spacious, wonderfully equipped, and easily set up to be the reign of a guest cook, makes it all the nicer.
From the dining room there are French doors out to a covered eating area on the main patio handy to the barbecue, and other doors to an outdoor sitting room, furnished with touches of the
East. Also in this building is a WC, a pantry and, on a lower level, the staff kitchen and laundry.
When inspired to venture out the property gates, it is a short drive to the amenities of the nearest village or to an 18-hole golf course.
Excellent roads to Siena, with its bustling weekly market, its famous shell-shaped piazza and its meandering streets makes this medieval gem practically a neighbour.
Yet also within an hour are the beaches of the southern Tuscan coast, Chianti villages of note and spas that welcome the weary.
A wonderful corner to explore, a treat of a place to call your own all the holiday long.
